The walk took us initially through the back lanes of Asley Heath passing a delightful mixture of both mature and new-build properties, guarded by wooden owls.

A short detour took us to the Ashley Memorial Hall where Margy was waiting for us.  Tim, Jan and Mo slipped into the kitchen to help Margy dish out the butties, oatcakes and drinks. What a superb team effort, and much appreciated by everyone who had turned up .........

33 of us, or was it 34, gathered up outside the Loggerheads pub, ready and eager to walk off our overindulgences over Xmas. We waited for a while for the 34th to join us until it was realised that the missing person was in fact Margy who was hard at it at the memorial hall preparing our breakfasts.

It was a cloudy, dry day and we successfully managed to set off just a few minutes beyond the proposed 10am start time. Today's walk was the shortest Squarry walk so far, although the estimated 5.1 miles would suit both the pub timings and also  those who were struggling to manage longer distances these days.

An hour later we arrived back at the Loggerheads pub for lunch. The service was slow and the food wasn't the best but we survived to tell the tale. And don't forget to pay for your additional slice of pineapple with your gammon and egg. It was an extra 95p.....

Thanks to everyone who turned up today and for making it a most enjoyable day. And of course, many thanks to Mothy for organising the walk, Margy for her sterling work in preparing the breakfasts, and to Janet and Mo for helping out at the hall.

Cheers
Yuppers
(enjoy yer pineapples)

Half an hour or so later, and suitably refreshed, it was time to move on. Karenza, Russ and Tom joined us for the remaining 4 miles as we rejoined the proposed route through Ashley Dale and Ashley.  Richee appeared out of nowhere in his car, visiting his dad who lives on one of the lanes. What an unexpected surprise heh?  Chris Mayer set off to find OS bench marks, Keithee couldn't make his mind up as to which way to go, and Zoe couldn't hear a thing.....

The welcoming Peel Arms in Ashley accommodated us for an early morning tipple (well, it was probably nearer 12.30). Just time for one as we were running late. The Wainwrights was very satisfying. Margy, Janet and Mo drank just one bottle of gin between them!!!

The Coughin Box, provided shelter for the dogs and owners as they weren't allowed inside the pub. The owners were obviously, but not the dogs......
